We now live in a time when technology has taken over. Almost everyone has a laptop, tablet and/or a mobile phone to help them plan their day, take pictures and communicate with others. Another thing people use their devices for is for researching. Whether you’re searching for restaurants nearby, looking at reviews for a new product or looking up specific services, you’re searching online for the best option that meets your needs.

This is why it is critical for businesses to build an online presence through a clear digital marketing strategy . If you don’t have a website, online listings or social media accounts for people to find you online, no one will even know you exist. So how can you build your online presence? Start off simple with these 3 tips.

Website

Make sure your website is mobile friendly ! 60% of web traffic comes from a smartphone or tablet so it is critical that you have a website that is mobile friendly.

Next, it is important to optimize your web pages. Start by thinking of 5 main keywords that people would search for in order to find your company online. From there identify which keywords will be used on each web page and ensure the keyword is consistently used within the content.

Now onto metatags , your meta title and meta description will inform search engines what your web pages are about so make sure to insert your keywords where possible. This is a very important part of your digital marketing strategy because if someone is searching for a keyword you are optimizing for on your website, the search engine will show your web page to the user.

Consistent Content

It is important to post consistent content on your website to inform your audience and gain credibility in your industry. Over time this will help in getting your website rank higher in search engines for the topics you have chosen.

Content can be anything from keyword rich blogs to videos and podcasts. Start off simple with a blog. Choose a topic that is relevant to your business and begin with a pain point your customer may have and write about how your product or service is the solution to their pain point. Once you’ve posted it on your website, with your meta title and description, it is time to share the content on your social media pages.

Be sure to share it on your social profiles. By providing consistent content to your website you are gaining credibility in your industry which will also help with your online growth.

Social Media

Using social media is a crucial part of your digital marketing strategy. It’s a quick way to get your business online and share relevant information about your products and services. After you’ve begun posting consistent content on your website, it is important to post about it on your social media pages. This will inform a wider audience about your website and content. Start off with the 4 main social platforms:

Facebook

Create a Facebook business page, this is where you’ll be able to add your company information and post relevant content about your business. You can also draft and manage Facebook ads within your Facebook business manager account.

Twitter

Twitter is an excellent social platform because it targets a wide demographic and your tweets are now searchable by Google making your Twitter profile visible when someone is Googling something you’ve tweeting about.

LinkedIn

LinkedIn is great for B2B (business to business) interaction so be sure to create a company page and include your company website and any information about your brand and services that you want to share with your peers.

Google +

A Google + page is also important for your online digital marketing strategy. Start by registering Google My Business which is an online listing within Google where you can manage your business information such as your location and hours of operation. Then create your Google+ page where you can join groups that are relevant to your brand and post information about your company.

When it comes to posting on your social media platforms, it’s best to work with the 80/20 rule. Share general information and other users content 80% of the time and post about your business 20% of the time. This is so you don’t stifle your followers by constantly selling your products to them, instead share information that you think your followers would find interesting.

Through posting consistent keyword rich content on your website, optimizing your content with metadata and posting on your social media platforms to drive traffic to your website, you are building your online presence and making it easier for potential customers to find you online.
