Imagine that you would know every time someone is asking for a referral for your service.  Imagine that you could check out the person that is asking for the referral to see if that's a good fit for your business. And then imagine that you could message them right away and start a conversation.  All of that is possible within LinkedIn quickly and easily.

This quick article show how you can create a "LinkedIn Listening Station" on your free LinkedIn account, without Sales Navigator. It allows you to reach out to people who are ready to buy your product or service directly, simply by listening when they're asking for help.

Basically, you create a search for posts people have put on LinkedIn in the past 24 hours, asking for recommendations or professionals. The idea if from Isaac Anderson of Zeeko.io, a LinkedIn Expert. You can view his video here. The steps below will take you less than 5 minutes to set up, and you can start mining leads on LinkedIn with 10 minutes of effort per day!

Step 1: create a relevant search

Here is the formula for the search:
(looking for) AND (recommendations OR professionals) AND (your service 1 OR your service 2 OR your service 3)

For example, if you provide online strategy and digital marketing services then your formula might look like this:

(looking for) AND (recommendations OR professionals) AND (marketing strategy OR digital marketing)

(Note that on a free LinkedIn account you can use a maximum of 5 Boolean operators, so a total of 5 "AND" and "OR")

Step 2: Implement the search on LinkedIn and optimize

Now it's time to set up the Listening Station:

  • Open your LinkedIn account
  • Copy the search from step 1, paste it into the "Search" field and press Enter
  • Click "People" under the LinkedIn logo, and then select "Content"
  • Click on "Date Posted" and select "Past 24 hours"
  • Bookmark the search. In Chrome: press ctrl-D and give it a name like "LinkedIn Listening Station"

Here is a quick video illustrating the steps:

That's it, you're all set!

Step 3: Listen every morning

Every day just click on the bookmark and LinkedIn will execute the search. You can then reach out to the people who are ready to buy your product or service!

If you really want to step it up a notch then you can get Sales Navigator which allows you to fine-tune your search.

Hardly a day seems to go by without hearing about a new email scam. Even worse, bad actors are using generative AI tools to create ever more convincing emails to trick us into revealing some personal information. Fortunately, technology is also being used to preserve the integrity of email as a means of business communication. New standards and techniques are constantly being developed and implemented to combat the vulnerabilities most often used by hackers.
